Lighting designed by students, inspired by Astro
For the second year running, Astro has supported local sixth form students at Knights Templar high school with their product design lighting projects.
At the beginning of the year, 19 students currently studying A Level Design and Technology visited the new Astro Lighting HQ to learn how to create a commercially-relevant lighting product and gain an understanding of the complete lighting design process; from initial design sketches through to product development. The students later had the chance to tour the Astro building, exploring the 86,000 sq-ft warehouse, in house photo studio, prototyping workshop and lighting showroom.
The students then spent a number of weeks designing a light that reflected the Astro brand and design principles of elegant simplicity, and considered how it could complement the current Astro product portfolio. Each of the students were later given feedback on their project by Astro Co-Founder James Bassant when he visited the school in April.
James said, "It was great to continue our association with Knights Templar for the second year running. This years' student projects were equally as great as last year with an impressive collection of lighting models and prototypes spanning across a huge range of different styles. We look forward to working with Knights Templar again next year."
