Just over a month ago, Astro's Design Director James Bassant and Engineering Manager Rob Speck took time out of their busy schedule to visit a group of thirty-eight third year Product Design students at the Sheffield Institute of Art, as part of the BCFA's student clinics.
James and Rob spent half an hour with each student on an individual basis in order to discuss career opportunities, look through their current portfolio of work and apply their product design knowledge to the lighting industry. The overall aim of the day was to ensure that students were encouraged to find employment after their studies within the furniture/furnishings industry, and to discuss how product design works within different product design sectors.
"I'd like to thank James and Rob wholeheartedly for the enthusiasm and professional insight you both offered to our final year students during the BCFA @ SIA portfolio clinics." said Dean Stanford, the Senior Lecturer in Product Design at SIA.
"The day was a complete success and the students have all been commenting on how useful and insightful their 1:1 clinics proved to be. Events such as these are an important part of helping our students (the design professionals of the future) to understand the wider design industry and in particular the myriad of commercial and employability aspects that may very well shape their own design careers."
Astro are delighted to have been involved with the BCFA's student clinic and would like to wish all of the students the best of luck for their future careers in product design.
