Astro takes on Trekathon in aid of Streets2Homes

On Saturday 28th September 2019, a group of Astro employees took part in the 'Astro Trekathon' - a 26 mile hike from Beachy Head to Lewes Castle, all in aid of raising crucial funds and awareness for Streets2Homes.

Streets2Homes are a small charity based in Harlow, helping homeless individuals or those at risk of becoming homeless get their lives back on track. The charity offers a range of support services, including a day centre for clients to access basic amenities such as hot meals, warm clothing and shower facilities. The Streets2Home team, made up of less than ten paid employees, provide their clients with dedicated pathway plans to ensure they receive essential guidance and support with accommodation, employment and qualifications. With rough sleeping figures trebling since 2010 across the country, and with limited funds and resources, the charity relies heavily on donations and external support.

The partnership between Astro and Streets2Homes began when Astro Co-founders John Fearon and James Bassant met with Streets2Homes CEO Kerrie Eastman and were blown away by the incredible work the charity does on a day-to-day basis and how much of a difference they make to individuals within the area.

John and James commented, - "At Astro Lighting, we are very fortunate to have enjoyed success and growth since our foundation over 22 years ago. As we continue to grow, it is important to us that we give back to our local community. We feel very proud that one of the first actions we took was to partner with Streets2Homes to support the incredible work they do for homeless people within the local Harlow area."

The Astro Trekathon was most definitely be a challenge for the team, both physically and mentally, however, it was in aid of a very worthwhile cause.

We are delighted to announce that the team raised over £6,594 for Streets2Homes, 75% over their original fundraising target! A big thank you to everyone that supported the event. The funds will go directly towards supporting those who need it most in our local community.
