People are at the heart of our business. Together, we have a shared vision built upon inclusive opportunity and creating a positive future for our community, our customers and our business.
Our global team is made up of creative, determined individuals who know how to work hard, but equally have fun! Everyone has a voice at Astro, and we actively encourage employees to offer new ideas or better ways of working, as part of our continuous improvement programme. Everyone at Astro embodies our set of core values; Design Matters, Pursuit of Excellence, Always Go Further and Be Fair & Decent.
From weekly yoga classes, book club, running club and more - we have a range of initiatives held at Astro HQ that promote a healthy body and mind. To encourage continual personal development we have a successful mentoring programme in place, which gives employees the opportunity to get support from more senior individuals within the business.
We are proud to partner with local charity Streets2Homes who provide life-changing support to those who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless. Since 2016, we have raised over £15,000 for Streets2Homes through a range of fundraising events - including abseiling, a 26-mile Trekathon and taking part in a Tough Mudder race. Our team also supports the charity through various volunteering and skills-matching opportunities.
Over the last three years, we have supported over 250 students from various schools and Universities across the UK. We see the value in creating opportunities for students to gain real world, industry experience and offer a range of work placement options for students looking to embark on a career in product design and engineering.
Local Artistic Talent
True to one of our core values that 'Design Matters', we actively engage with the local art community. Our HQ building displays several striking art pieces created by local artists, which are on loan to us from Harlow's creative hub Parndon Mill. We also support the Harlow Art Trust, and have been a main sponsor of their 'Harlow Open' exhibition for the past two years.
Lights for Freedom
As part of Design Week Mexico, we worked alongside our Mexican distributor Diez Company and 22 internationally renowned artists to transform the Astro Eclipse wall lights into works of art, using the concept of freedom as inspiration. The art works were later sold at a silent auction raising over $25,000 for the charity Las Mujeres Cautivas and their work in rehabilitating female prisoners in Mexico. You can view the final lights and read more about the artists involved by clicking the link below.
