Jupp House, London
Based in West London, this compact black-brick house was designed to occupy a homeowner's empty plot of land at the end of their garden.
Located in Acton, Jupp House features a double-gabled roof which protrudes proudly over the top of the boundary wall to give the building an intriguing character.
Reflecting the older gabled buildings within the same street, simple materials including dark brick and grey zinc were chosen to reflect the discreet setting and to ensure they weather and mature well.
Inside, a refined palette is applied, with white-painted walls and polished concrete floors complemented by oak-veneered joinery and Astro's Pella plaster lights and track ceiling lights in the living areas, and Mast in concrete within the contemporary bathroom.
Subtly softening the hard interior, the well-placed lighting creates both ambience and functional illumination without detracting from the overall aesthetic.
